Dolphin and Linbit partner to capture database customers – and beyond
Providing Application Security, Scalability and High Performance to the Web market
September 12 2008 – Dolphin Interconnect Solutions and Linbit HA Solutions announced today that they have entered into a partnership. Targeting overlapping application markets, the companies will cooperate in marketing, sales and joint solutions giving each company an expanded reach and increased value proposition to its customers and prospects.
The partnership delivers immediate benefits to database users requiring high availability while maintaining low application latency and high throughput. Both companies' technologies are already a fixture among users of the web's most popular database, MySQL. In the MySQL ecosystem, Dolphin SuperSockets and LINBIT's DRBD are already widely deployed, separately, in MySQL Enterprise and MySQL Cluster database environments. The newly available combined solution, DRBD for Dolphin Express, now turns the MySQL/DRBD/Dolphin Express bundle into an extremely versatile database high availability powerhouse for the LAMP stack.
However, both companies acknowledge that the customer value of DRBD for Dolphin Express extends a long way beyond LAMP and MySQL -- and even beyond databases. The general-purpose shared-nothing storage replication solution, DRBD for Dolphin Express is equally well suited for highly available virtualization, streaming media content storage or email and collaboration services, to name but a few.
Linbit and Dolphin will leverage each other's sales channels to ensure that the broadest possible user base has access to this powerful solution. Further, both companies release their software under the GNU GPL open source software license to ensure maximum community participation and encourage quality feedback from community developers.
