The PCI chipset will influence your system performance. Some chipsets limit PCI burst length, requiring multiple bursts to transfer larger amounts of data, while others are unable to prefetch data from memory resulting in memory starvation.
Dolphin PCI adapter cards work on all types of PCI chipsets and hostbridges, but not all chipsets are equally suited. Based on our experience we have compiled this non-exclusive list of recommendation:
x86 66 MHz / 64 Bit PCI:
For AMD Opteron processors
-AMD 8131
For AMD Athlon processors
-AMD 760 MPX
For Intel processors (PIIII, Xeon)
-Intel E7520 (Lindenhurst)
-Intel E7500
-Intel E7501
-Intel E7505
The Intel E7510 chipset is not recommended due to severe performance limitations.
For Intel processors (PIII, Xeon)
- Intel i840
- Intel i860
x86 33 MHz / 64 Bit PCI:
For Intel processors (P2, P2 Xeon and PIII Xeon)
- Intel 450NX
- Intel 440GX with 64bit PCI
For AMD Athlon processors
-AMD 760 MP (163MB/s)
x86 33 MHz / 32 Bit PCI:
For AMD processors (K7 Athlon)
- ViA KT133
- ViA KX133
We do not recommend the AMD 750 chipset for performance reasons
For Intel processors (P2 and PIII)
- ViA Apollo Pro 133A (both SMP and UP)
- Intel 440GX
- Intel 440BX
We do not recommend the Intel 440LX, 440FX or 440KX chipsets for performance reasons
Sun SPARC:
