PCI Express over Cable

Dolphin PCI Express Gen2 PCI Express Products

The new Dolphin Express PCI Express Gen2 based architecture based on the IDT Gen2 PCI Express Switches  provides PCI Express performance with the compatibility of Ethernet.  The PCI Express architecture enables NTB applications based on IDT PCI Express Switchs.  Dolphin integrated IDT's NTB technology into Dolphin Express Hardware and Software architecture including Dolphin SuperSockets Sockets API and SISCI embedded software.  Host Adapters and switches developed on this architecture reduce time to market for high performance low cost PCI Express products.

PCI Express Products

The new Dolphin Express Gen2 products take advantage of the latest IDT architecture. A low profile PCI Express host adapter card and XMC adapter built with a new IDT 24 lane 3 port Gen2 switch provide a full 80 Gbps (aggregated bidirectional) performance over standard PCI Express cables. Two Dolphin Express cards connected point to point creates a high performance connection or a single card can connect to any other PCI Express Gen2 equipment, IO systems,or other devices that support PCI Express compliant IPASS connectors. Dolphin products will supports both transparent and non-transparent communication. Used in transparent mode,a card will run without the need for special drivers, supports legacy devices, and device drivers. In NTB mode, these cards enable low latency processor to processor communication. Dolphin's SuperSockets and SISCI API are supported in NTB mode, providing a standard software model for processor communication.

Software

Dolphin offers a wide range of proven software for its products. SuperSockets, a standard Berkeley Sockets and Microsoft WinSock2 compliant API, provides the ability to send short messages in two microseconds, an order of magnitude superior to comparable options in the market. A combination of PIO and DMA operations are exploitet to minimize system overhead and maximize application throughput over the 40 Gbps links.

Dolphin SuperSockets prevents system bottlenecks and provides super-fast - ultra-low latency, high bandwidth communication for critical applications.

SuperSockets has been running critical applications on Linux and Windows for several years. SuperSockets provides socket latency as low as 1.75us and close to wire speed throughput. Read more about SuperSockets.

SISCI Developers Kit

The SISCI API made available through the SISCI Developers Kit makes it easy for customers to implement optimized applications directly over shared memory. The SISCI API provides functionality to easy create and manage multi host shared memory using, PIO (programmed IO) RDMA/DMA and Interrupts as well as managing direct PCI Express peer to peer transfers.

Ultra low latency

A user space application using shared memory with Dolphin Express can expect a real application to application latency as low as 0.74us (microseconds). The maximum transaction jitter will be very low as the complete data transfers are completed by deterministic PCI Express hardware.

Both Linux and Windows are supported. Read more about the SISCI Developers kit and the SISCI API.

Custom

The SuperSockets and the SISCI software can be used by other hardware vendors building their custom made  solutions based on IDT's chipset. In combination with the Dolphin Express adapter cards, powerful system can quickly be brought to market. Please contact Dolphin for further information.
